This week’s Gospel tells of John the Baptist proclaiming Jesus’ coming and then later baptizing Jesus in the Jordan river.

This likeness to God that his love for us and ours for him confers on us gives us confidence in the day of judgment.

We must become the word of love spoken by God in our hearts. We must become the Good News made flesh for our world.

Our love for God is always a response to his prior initiative of love. God is love and God has loved us first. Our love for our neighbor is a reflection of God’s love for us.

Even if you just want to be left alone, have a conversation—real-time or virtual—with a family member or friend. Let him or her help.

Christ’s commandments are that we believe in the name of Jesus and love one another. The Spirit will then remain in us.

Whether we’re traveling or at home, the one thing we know is that God is with us.

Given the year we’ve left behind, 2021 seems like a breath of fresh air. Let us welcome the new year with our eyes affixed on the horizon.
