Reflect

One of the most beautiful pieces of Christian writing is Paul’s tender description of love in chapter 13 of the first letter to the Corinthians. He begins by describing the wonders he might work, speaking in tongues, prophesying, understanding mysteries, selfless generosity, faith to move mountains, even martyrdom, but concludes by saying without love such saintly acts are worthless. Love is patient, love is kind, not jealous or boastful, instead it bears all things, hopes all things, endures all things.  The next time you look at the cross, think of Paul’s beautiful words, and remember this: real love isn’t a sentiment, a fanciful feeling, it is a selfless choice that always leads toward Christ.

Pray

Lord, open my eyes to the wonder of Your love
open my soul to the grace that flows from Your Love,
and open my heart to the example of Your love.
Let me always follow You, and let me be
renewed by giving myself away
and finding myself in You.

Act

Practice patience and kindness today; greet the need of another with gratitude for the opportunity to serve Jesus through them. And take a moment to reread 1 Corinthians 13 and ponder what it means to truly love.
