Reflect
“In peace I lie down and at once fall asleep,
for it is You and none other, Oh Lord,
who make me rest secure.” –Psalm 4: 8
Our rest is in God—to trust in His love and His protection is our peace. This does not mean a life free from discomfort, from disharmony, not even a life free from cruelty. But it does mean a life free from anxiety. Even in the darkest night, when we feel most afraid and utterly lost, to walk with God means we are on the right path, in fact as long as we walk with God, we are already home.
Pray
The Lord is my shepherd,
what else do I need to say,
when the world seems dark
His love will light my way.
When sorrow comes
He will dry my tears,
comfort my heart
and ease my fears.
By His side I am always blest,
and safe in His arms, find true rest.
Act
Read Psalm 23 several times; sit quietly letting the words echo in your mind. Choose a verse or a phrase and memorize it; let it become a comfort to you and a source of peace to your life. Let it seep into your memory, sinking down into the depths of your soul. Let it take root in your heart. Let its wisdom and beauty become a rod and a staff to guide your life; a source of strength and encouragement. Let it begin to glow from within you, a halo of grace and peace, radiating forth for all you meet. And if anyone asks, just tell them about your shepherd and the peace He brings.
