Move Slow and Don’t Break Things

Reflect

As a woodworker, I can ruin hours of meticulous effort in a single moment of inattention.  Whether it’s a work of art, a relationship, the bonds of social trust—destroying something is almost always easier and quicker than creating it. Forget moving fast and breaking things, as they say in the tech world. Let’s slow down and be gentle.

Pray

Beloved One,
Help us to be makers, not breakers.
May we always strive to build up
rather than tear down.
May we come to honor and cherish
The fragility of things.
Deliver us from carelessness.

Act

Even if you don’t consider yourself an artist or a craftsperson, try to make things on a regular basis. Becoming a maker is a great way to avoid becoming a breaker.
