Letting Go, Dying to Ourselves

person praying and repenting

Reflect

In his second letter to the Corinthians, Paul affirms that even as we live, we are continually being handed over to death—for the sake of Jesus.  What does that mean? What does it mean to be handed over to death every day, every moment of every day? Is it something to be feared? Or, is it actually an invitation, an invitation to let go of our egos and our security blankets and enter more fully into the life of Christ?

Pray

Help me, Lord
to let go of pride,
to let go of desire and ego,
to let go of my own will,
to die to myself
and surrender my life
completely to You
in every moment,
in every encounter,
in every choice I make
let me truly say: Thy will be done.

Act

Consecrate your day to God; trust that whatever comes your way, difficulties or joy, sorrow or laughter, it may be a day of quiet solitude or a day of constant interruptions, a day of rest or a day of hard labor, but whatever comes your way, ask yourself this: In this moment, where do I see an opportunity to die to myself and hand my life over to the Love of God?
