Reflect
The world can be cruel and heartbreaking, and I can’t always find God in it. Jesus reminds us, “In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, for I have conquered the world” (Jn 16:33).
Pray
Dear Jesus,
Life in this world is full of trouble.
The world says, “There is no God,”
but then I hold my newborn grandson
and know there is.
The world says, “God is dead,”
but then I spot a daffodil poking its head up through the snow,
and I know you’re alive.
The world says, “Be good to yourself,”
but then my heart convinces me to offer a listening ear to a friend in need.
Thank you for reminding me that you are here and that the world is in your hands.
Act
Set a goal to see five signs of God’s presence today. Write down at least one of those signs and return to your note in a week. Will you still see that sign of God’s presence around you?

Thank you for reminding us that God overcomes the world continually. As you note, the signs are all around us, if we but widen our gaze beyond instances of the world’s hardness. I’ll act on your suggestions today.
