person walking on a trail, following a path.

Reflect

Do you ever get annoyed with people who seem to have a vision and strategic plan for their entire life? Most of us don’t achieve such clarity. God sometimes uses a megaphone, but more often, it’s a small whisper. Our task is to follow the breadcrumbs of our lives, paying attention to those small, usually subtle experiences that can guide our vocational path.

Pray

O God of wind, earthquake, fire, and whispers,
It’s so easy to be frustrated when you seem absent
and we who are lost so desperately need your guidance.
Open our hearts and minds and eyes
to sense how you reach out to us in all those things
that are so, so easy to miss.
May we follow the breadcrumbs you have given us
that our path may lead us back to you.

Act

Here are two things you can do to help you find and follow God’s breadcrumbs. First, commit to dialing down the noise and distractions in your life—phone, streaming, and all the things that teleport us from reality. Second, consider meeting regularly with a spiritual companion or spiritual director who can help you discern where and how God is speaking in your life.
