Reflect
Among those processing into Mass were a woman unloading a walker for her husband in a leg brace, a husband leaning over to push a wheelchair holding his wife (in the final stages of cancer) up a slight incline, and a wife guiding her husband as his cane tapped the floor leading into their pew. Our Mass incorporated a sacramental anointing of the sick—on their foreheads and palms—with healing words of blessing. Our pastor invited caregivers to be anointed too.
Pray
Compassionate God,
today please let extra blessings
flow to all those caring for the ill,
mentally or physically.
Equip them with kindness and gentleness
in their vital role in the lives of those they help.
Give them patience,
and an added dose of energy—
physical, emotional and spiritual.
Act
Are you a caregiver, professional or “amateur” (by virtue of family relationship)? If so, find a minute or two to thank God for allowing you to accept this role day after day. If you are one cared for, at home or in a nursing facility, find little ways to remind your caretaker how blessed you are that they are part of your life.
