A Patron Saint for Hope

Grieving woman holding her head

Reflect

The saints are patrons for many different things. St. Martha’s patronage includes single women and cooks. On one occasion, she prepares the meal for Jesus and possibly other guests, and says what she thinks is obvious: All hands should pitch in to help with the dinner! However, Martha’s greatest glory is her simple yet strong statement of faith in Jesus after her brother’s death.

Pray

Dear Jesus, St. Martha is an example to all men and women
wrestling with the pain that comes with losing a loved one.
She is a model of hope to us when suffering touches our lives.
May we lean on her intercession
when death touches our lives in personal ways.
Amen.

Act

Read and pray with the account of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead in John 11:38-44.
