Day Twenty One: A Catholic Family Advent

Scripture

Your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me; your throne shall be established forever.

—2 Samuel 7:16

Reflection

A friend once told me that what he loved most about my parents was that their home was always open to friends and family. And that’s true. I have tried to imitate that generosity in my own household. I am always happy to have my friends, family, and children’s friends gathered around—a busy home is a happy home. Sometimes, though, we get too busy and forget to invite those we care about into our lives—and our homes.

Talk Together

If you could build a house anywhere, where would you build it? What would it look like?

Prayer

Lord, watch over all those who enter this home. Thank you for blessing this house, and the friends and family who fill it.

Activity

Host an open house with a few friends or neighbors. It may sound like a lot of work at this time of year, but it doesn’t have to be. Ask everyone to bring something to eat or drink, or just order pizza. The important thing is to spend time together reconnecting. Talk, play games, or watch a movie.
