Jesus continues to teach his followers about prayer–an important element of discipleship. We need to be persistent in prayer not for the sake of informing God of our needs, but to train ourselves to expect and appreciate what God does for us.

Both versions of the Lord’s Prayer teach us how we are to address God, but also describe the kind of God we are to address. He is a father who forgives and expects his children to be forgiving.

Being neighbor is not a matter of pre-existing relationships to which we respond. “Being neighbor” is a matter of extending ourselves to those in need–regardless of whether or not there are human connections.

Many people today reject Jesus. They’re not interested in what he has to offer. They look on faith and religion as a kind of hobby–appropriate for those who like that sort of thing, irrelevant to those who don’t.

The archangels Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel whom the Church celebrates today are special agents of God’s care for his people. The Church looks on each of them as patrons of certain aspects of our world.
