Daily Reading from the USCCB: Luke 11:1-4
This is Luke’s version of the Lord’s Prayer. It’s the same prayer we find in Matthew’s Gospel, but with a different tonality. Scholars say Matthew has an Aramaic flavor and is more oriented to eschatological concerns. Luke seems more oriented to Gentiles and the daily needs of the Church.
Both versions teach us how we are to address God, but also describe the kind of God we are to address. He is God who is primarily a father providing care for his children in present and future. He is a father who forgives and expects his children to be forgiving. He is a father who will protect his children when the time of final trial arrives.
What kind of Father do I pray to?
