Reflect

Making music is one of the most fundamental human acts. It can also be one of the most sacred, as St. Augustine knew: “Singing is praying twice.”  Whether you’re making it or simply appreciating it, good music—of any genre—can build a sturdy bridge between the divine and human realms.

Pray

Lord of the heavenly choirs,
Thank you for the soaring melody,
For the harmonies, reminding us
That harmony is possible.
For the sung poetry,
disciplined skill of body and mind,
depths and heights of soul,
For the love and togetherness
That bring forth music and that music brings forth.
May we sing and play our way home to you.

Act

Try to make music an everyday part of your life, just like prayer.  Listen to old favorites and discover new ones.  And make your own music.  Maybe you already play or sing – how might you grow in your skill?  Could you pick back up an instrument long neglected, or try something new?
