Thursday of the Twenty-third Week in Ordinary Time

September 10, 2020
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Luke 6:27-38

Today’s reading is from Luke’s so-called “sermon on the plain,” parallel to Matthew’s “Sermon on the Mount.” The Lectionary gives us the part of the sermon on the plain dealing with our enemies. Three times in this reading Jesus tells us that we must love our enemies, that we must do good for them, that we must be generous to them. We must act well toward those who do not act well toward us.

There are people in the lives of all of us who do not act well toward us–who never seem willing to do us much good. Jesus says that we must love these people and do good to them as God does to us. And how do I do that?
