Sharing the Word for October 13, 2021

Wednesday of the Twenty-eighth Week in Ordinary Time

October 13, 2021
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Romans 2:1-11

Pagans experience the consequences of their sinfulness. But the same consequences await observers of the Jewish law who commit the sins of the pagans.

God does not play favorites. He judges each according to his works. Those who sin are sinners–whether they be Jews or Gentiles. True, the Lord is kind and merciful, but his boundless mercy should lead us to repentance for our sins, not to presumption on his kindness. Merely being Jewish is not claim enough on God to attain salvation. What counts is the behavior of each one–Jew or Gentile.

Salvation, the observance of the Jewish law, personal moral behavior: these are the matters that concern Paul in this letter to the Romans. They are also of concern to us.
