Daily Reading from the USCCB: Acts 19:1-8
From Corinth Paul returned to Antioch and from there to Ephesus.
Things were not in good order in Ephesus. There had been the dubious influence of Apollos. Now Paul discovered others who had been baptized only with the baptism of John. They needed to be instructed about Jesus and baptized in his name. Only then did they receive the gifts of the Spirit that came with the baptism of Jesus. Meanwhile Paul continued to debate with the Jews about the Kingdom of God.
From one perspective or another the Church is always in some degree of disorder. Maybe Christ intends it to be that way so that we will realize that its continued life and vigor are due to his efforts and not our own.
