Sharing the Word for February 20, 2023 – Seventh Week in Ordinary Time – Year 1

Monday of the Seventh Week in Ordinary Time

February 20, 2023
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Sirach 1:1-10

The author of Sirach was a Jewish educator concerned about the spread of pagan Greek culture among the Jews. He teaches that Jewish law is superior to the sophisticated culture of the Greeks.

There’s no formal definition of wisdom in Sirach. It’s a kind of heavenly energy that has its origin in God and that God communicates to some of his creatures. Sometimes wisdom seems to involve social relationships or moral instruction or even the intelligence of God according to which he created and oversees the world.

Wisdom is a gift to be sought by anyone who would be in touch with God. God still confers wisdom on his children today. The wisdom literature of the Bible teaches us how to seek it.
