Sharing the Word for August 4, 2022

Memorial of Saint John Vianney

August 4, 2022
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Matthew 16:13-23

Peter is unique in many ways. More than once–despite his faults–he professes his faith in Jesus with an enthusiasm that we don’t see in the other apostles. In response to that faith Jesus proclaims Peter to be the rock on which the Church would be founded. He would have a standing different from the other apostles’.

Peter is unique. Yet in many ways we are all like Peter. Like him we are all individually gifted, and all occasionally weak. We are all called to be sources of strength for Christ’s Church. The Church is built on each one of us differently, according to our capabilities.

The Lord loves each of us for our specialness. The Lord needs each of us for his Church.
