Keep Praying, No Matter How You Feel

Folded hands in prayer over a open Bible

Reflect

Have you struggled to pray when it feels dry and boring, like God is distant and not feeding us whenever we enter into prayer?

Pray

St. Ignatius of Loyola,
you wrote about spiritual desolation and consolation.
You taught us that our zeal for prayer will ebb and flow.
Our progress in the spiritual life cannot be measured by our emotions.
Help us to recognize the dry periods in our prayer lives,
not as a burden or punishment.
Rather, that those moments are an opportunity to show God our love and devotion
in a way more powerful than when we “feel like” praying.

Act

Even when you don’t want to pray out of boredom or spiritual dryness, force yourself to enter into that time with God to grow in deeper love and adoration of the Almighty.
