Giving Yourself to God

bible and a rosary with a wooden cross attached.

Reflect

If everything we have comes from God, then even our prayer must also come from God. Like the gift of faith, prayer is a gift. It is a radical recognition in the heart that there is more to this world, this life, than just me. My needs, my wants, my time, my comfort, my desires, and my dreams. Prayer is a turning away from our own self-centeredness toward the otherness of God. When we pray, we acknowledge the truth: We are not alone. Prayer is the seed of faith planted by God unfolding before him, turning—like a flower—toward the blinding light and warmth of the one who is Love.

Pray

O Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth will declare your praise.
Lift me up, out of my selfishness and sin
and fill me with your love.
Let my brokenness be my gift.
Humble my heart
and keep me always near.
I am yours, Oh Lord;
even in my weakness, and my failing,
I am yours.
Amen.

Act

Make time today to thank God for the gift of prayer, whether you sit in silent adoration, scream at the top of your lungs, or just take up your rosary and go for a walk. Let yourself rest in the gift of prayer. God’s love is an eternal invitation awaiting only one thing: you. Accept it.
