We recall today all the faithful believers who have died in the Lord but who have not yet reached a level of holiness that allows their full participation in the kingdom of heaven.
It is not up to us to determine where we belong in the heavenly celebration. It’s up to God to do that.
We have all been called by Jesus to be with him and learn from him. The feasts of the apostles serve to remind us of who and what we are.
If the kingdom–the Church–is not everything we would like it to be, it’s because the Church is what Jesus said it would be–a project that involves growth, development, incompleteness.
Jesus’ critics want him to limit his benevolence to certain times and certain days. Jesus refuses to allow his kindness to be limited.
