Anthony of Padua is often called upon when we have lost something–our keys, wallet, homework, etc. Yet he was also an outstanding preacher. He spoke in a way that allowed ordinary people to understand the extraordinary mercy of God.
“Finally, brothers, rejoice. Mend your ways, encourage one another, agree with one another, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you” (2 Cor 13:11). Who among us does not desire this? Whenever I hear these words, it’s as if the Spirit of God is whispering: “This is right. This is good. This is what we are made for.”
Those baptized in Christ are made members of his body. We are made sharers in his divine life and brothers and sisters to one another. In this way, the mother of Christ is our mother.
Forgiveness isn’t just about letting our grievances go. Forgiveness is the path to restoring the love that binds us to God and one another.
“Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly” (Proverbs 14:29).
As followers of Christ Jesus, we share in his work of salvation. Thank God for the witness of those who have shared the faith with you.
