Franciscan sisters’ land acknowledgment ceremony honors Indigenous nations

GREEN BAY, Wis. (CNS) — In what may have been the first such ceremony held by a Catholic religious community in Wisconsin, the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross hosted a land acknowledgment ceremony on the grounds of St. Francis Convent May 14.

Land acknowledgment ceremonies are a way for local institutions to recognize the history and contributions of Indigenous communities, which are the original inhabitants of the land across North America.
