Reflect
A friend recently compared heaven to an all-you-can-eat buffet. He said he got the idea from Dante’s Paradiso. His theory is that the buffet table is always open, and we have all of eternity to get all we can eat. Have you ever noticed, he asked, how some people get themselves ready for an all-you-can-eat buffet? They want to get as much as they can out of it, so they skip a meal just to make sure they are really hungry. But others (like me) don’t think ahead. We just show up after snacking on doughnuts all morning and find ourselves already stuffed even before we get in line. Is the fasting of Lent really just a lesson in redirecting our appetites, getting our stomachs ready for a real heavenly feast?
Pray
Mother Teresa,
You who fed the hungry,
served the poor,
nursed the sick,
cared for the dying,
and trusted in God’s grace
to feed your flock,
open my heart
and fill me with a hunger
for the bread of life,
the true food from heaven:
the love of God.
Teach me to feast on his merciful love.
Act
Make (or buy) yourself a second lunch today and give it away to a homeless person. If you feel so inspired, give them both away.
