Daily Reading from the USCCB: Luke 15:1-10
How strange God’s merciful outreach to sinners. It’s as eccentric–as foolish–as a shepherd who abandons 99 sheep to save one, or a woman who turns her whole house upside down to find a single coin she has misplaced. God’s pursuit of the sinner doesn’t make sense. But that’s how the Lord deals with us.
Jesus doesn’t save us because we are significant or important. He reaches out to us and invites us to respond to him because he loves us, and because he wants us no matter how insignificant–how unimportant–we may be.
It isn’t our response to God that’s important. What is important is the Lord’s illogical eccentricity, based not on our worth but simply on his love for us.
