Sharing the Word for August 29, 2022 – Twenty-second Week in Ordinary Time – Year 2
John the Baptist’s role was to prepare the people for the long-awaited Messiah. Jesus would come to John for baptism at the beginning of his ministry, and John would urge his listeners to repent and respond to Jesus’ words.
Aging Gracefully
During Pope John Paul II’s nearly 27-year pontificate, age and health issues caught up with him, as they do with us all. Even when he was in pain and unsteady, the pope continued to evangelize in person.

On Saturday, August 28, a double consistory was held at St Peter’s Basilica in Rome. In the first, Pope Francis created twenty new Cardinals, some from Rome but most from the far reaches of the world.
