Sharing the Word for May 26, 2020

Memorial of Saint Philip Neri

Daily Reading from the USCCB: John 17:1-11a

Jesus now turns to His Father in prayer. First He asks that the Father will glorify Him for His faithfulness in accomplishing the work that the Father gave Him to do. Glory involves majesty and approval and affirmation by the Father. Jesus is asking the Father to validate the saving work that He accomplished in His earthly mission.

Next Jesus prays for His disciples. The disciples belong to the Father. They have been entrusted by the Father to Jesus. The disciples have brought glory to Jesus. They will remain in the world as Jesus goes to the Father.

As disciples of the Lord we share Jesus’ glory and the generosity of the Father. We are precious to Jesus because we are precious to the Father.
