Daily Reading from the USCCB: Matthew 7:7-12
Prayer is important in conversion. God wants us to pray–to ask for what we need–not so that he can be informed about what he should give us, but so that we can continue to be aware of how much we depend on him.
In this reading God assures us that he will answer our prayers because he loves us. Just like a human father will give his children what they need, so God will give us what we need.
But we have to ask. We have to ask so that we will remain conscious of our dependence on our heavenly Father. God wants to be generous to us, but he also wants us to remain aware of what’s involved in his generosity.
