Sharing the Word for July 27, 2022

Wednesday of the Seventeenth Week in Ordinary Time

July 27, 2022
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Matthew 13:44-46

Today we are given another image of the “kingdom of heaven.” Jesus speaks of a treasure buried in a field, but it is discovered by chance. The treasure is magnificent and invaluable and so the man wisely hides the treasure and sells all he has so he can buy the treasure-rich field.

This is Jesus’ way of saying that for those who believe, the gift of faith is a treasure of goodness, truth and guidance. It is far more valuable than any earthly or material treasure.

For centuries, true believers have often been persecuted for their beliefs, in spite of their innocence and goodness. But Jesus assures us that the treasure he has prepared for those who are faithful will far outweigh any material good, pleasure, wealth, or fame they might have obtained during their earthly journey.
