Daily Reading from the USCCB: Exodus 16:1-5, 9-15
The Lord had been taking good care of the Israelites. First of all, he delivered them from their slavery in Egypt. Then he got them across the Red Sea destroying a world class army in the process. Now we see God providing food for them in the desert.
More often than not they greeted God’s plans with skepticism. “Why did you lead us out to die in the desert? We were better off in Egypt!” One gets the impression that the Israelites’ march was accompanied by grumbles! Yet over and over again God defended them and nourished them and guided them.
God takes care of us too. We don’t always perceive his care or appreciate it. But it’s there, and we are called to gratitude.
