Sharing the Word for January 3, 2022 – Epiphany Octave – Year 2

Monday after Epiphany

January 3, 2022
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Matthew 4:12-17, 23-25

The weekdays between the celebration of the Epiphany and the Baptism of the Lord offer us a series of samples or vignettes of what the ministry of Jesus would be when it began in its fullness after his baptism.

The reading for today from St. Matthew, speaks of the localization of Jesus’ ministry. He went to live in Capernaum, thus fulfilling the prophecy of Isaiah that this area would be enriched by the Lord with a great light that would overcome the darkness in which the people found themselves.

The Lord is present in our midst, too. True there is darkness all around us. But wherever we turn we have access to enlightenment from him. And for that we are called to gratitude.
