Seventh Day in the Octave of Christmas
December 31, 2021
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Psalm 96:1-2, 11-12, 13
This Responsorial Psalm–often repeated during the Christmas season–calls for all creatures to be involved in the music of heaven.
God exists in a context of joy, blessing, harmony, constancy, and invites his people to share in his bliss. In the kingdom of God there is always happiness, always singing. In fact one might say that the vocation of God’s people is to sing–to share in the delight that the Lord takes in himself and his creation.
This vocation is not addressed to a chosen few, but to all humanity–to all creation, to every time and place. We are all invited to be part of God’s choir. No one, no creature is excluded. “Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice.”
