Feast of Saint John, Apostle and Evangelist
December 27, 2021
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Psalm 97:1-2, 5-6, 11-12
Today is the feast of St. John, apostle and evangelist, special friend of Jesus. Our Responsorial Psalm describes the sentiments that characterized their relationship–how Jesus and John, and indeed all Jesus’ followers, relate to one another.
The text calls for rejoicing on the part of Jesus’ followers. The justice and judgment of God call for universal gladness. All creation proclaims God’s glory. All are called to give thanks to him.
All the just–all of us–are beloved of the Lord. We are all called to find gladness in our relationship with him. We are all called to be grateful for God’s care for us, for the glory that he shares with us. Today God says to us, “Rejoice in the Lord, you just.”
