Daily Reading from the USCCB: Matthew 14:22-36
First of all, today’s reading teaches us that Jesus has power over the chaos of the raging waters–over the forces of evil.
The second thing we learn from today’s narrative is that we too, can walk effortlessly over the turbulence around us, but we can’t do it on our own. We need the power that comes from faith and confidence in Jesus. It is he who makes it possible for us to walk through storms unharmed.
We are not at the mercy of the forces of evil. Jesus will keep us from sinking. At the same time we can’t deal with the evil around us as if we were in charge. The Lord is in charge, and the Lord will take care of us.
