Some years ago, the priest at a nearby chapel expressed a special love for scripture. One lesson Father Vincent (may he rest in peace) often worked in was how the bible is full of little prayers. Consider a few examples: “The Lord will renew me in his love” (Zephaniah 3:17). “God is with you in everything you do” (Genesis 21:22b). “Rejoice in the Lord always” (Philippians 4:4). “God is light” (1 John 1:5b).
Dear Lord, help me recognize your voice and messages
through the many little prayers scattered throughout the bible.
Help me to slow down and listen carefully so I might discover
any small verses that might inspire and encourage me.
Remind me to keep your words close to my heart.
Pay close attention to the readings at Mass this week. See if you notice any little prayers tucked within. Write the verse down and let it be your prayer for the day or week. Consider starting a collection of your favorite little bible prayers.
