Our faith teaches us that in view of the role she would play in the salvation of humankind, Mary was exempted from the infection of sinfulness. That exception is what we celebrate today.
The glory and the power of the Lord call out for joyous expression. The Lord is coming to rule the world with justice and equity. That calls for singing.
Far from abandoning the exiled Israelites, the Lord offered his gifts to the entire people–to all those who acknowledged his lordship.
Our task is to be open to God’s goodness, to be receptive of his wisdom, to be willing to receive the vast spectrum of generosity that he wants to share with us. There is no limit to his kindness.
Isaiah’s prophetic proclamation continues to look forward to the time of God’s kingdom, the time of salvation, the time of healing and restored healthiness.
In today’s reading the prophet Isaiah invites the people to trust in the strength of God’s city and in God’s intent to keep it in peace. “Trust in the Lord forever for the Lord is an eternal rock.”
