Daily Reading from the USCCB: Luke 12:39-48

More about the coming of the Lord. All Christian existence involves expectation of the Lord’s coming. That the Lord will come is certain. The timing of it is unknown.

But there is more. Being ready for the Lord’s return is not a purely personal matter. It’s something that includes responsibility for the community. The Lord has entrusted us with care for one another. We’ve all been called to look out for the well-being of our brothers and sisters as they wait with us for the coming of the kingdom. Sometimes we get distracted from this responsibility and find ourselves looking out for ourselves alone. If we don’t include others as we look to the kingdom, we’re not looking out for ourselves either.
