Feast of Saint Luke, Evangelist

October 18, 2022
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Luke 10:1-9

There were several groupings among the followers of Jesus. There were the twelve apostles and the 72  disciples whose commission we read about today. Others became attached to Jesus in various ways.

Among these was St. Luke. There is no indication that Luke knew Jesus personally during his earthly life. Luke was St. Paul’s assistant, and his great contribution was his writing. St. Luke wrote more of the New Testament than anybody except St. Paul. Much of what we know about Jesus and the early Church comes to us from Luke’s Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles.

Most of us are not called to write about Jesus. But we are called to proclaim Jesus in our lives. How good a proclaimer am I?
