Solemnity of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist
June 24, 2020
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Luke 1:57-66, 80
“What will this child be?” the neighbors wondered. He was born of aged parents. His father had experienced strange happenings in the temple, and came out of the sanctuary unable to speak. Now there was the question of the child’s name. Nobody in the family had ever been named John, yet that’s what his parents insisted he be called. Zechariah found that his tongue was now loosened and he could speak again.
The neighbors had plenty to talk about. The hand of God was certainly at work here. What indeed would this child be?
We are not born in the unique circumstances of John the Baptist, yet each of us is special to God–each has a special calling from God. How am I special?
