Sharing the Word for February 21, 2023

Tuesday of the Seventh Week in Ordinary Time

February 21, 2023
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Mark 9:30-37

As Jesus makes his final journey to Jerusalem, he begins to tell his apostles about his upcoming passion and death. He will be handed over and killed; but in three days he will rise again. We are told his apostles were so afraid they did not even ask any questions.

These followers wanted only good news to blend in with the dreams of fame and fortune they hoped Jesus would supply for them. It is really essential that we followers of Jesus understand we live in a broken and wounded world. Suffering in some fashion or form is part of the journey everyone makes in their lifetime.

But at the same time, we must believe that we never walk alone; Jesus is always with us in every experience we have whether joyful or sad. He knows what our lives are like because he himself walked this journey, with faith in his Father’s care. The journey we make does not end with death, but rather the journey leads to eternity with God.
