Thursday of the Seventeenth Week in Ordinary Time
August 3, 2023
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Exodus 40:16-21, 34-38
Moses sets up a sanctuary for God. God wants to be near his people–accessible to them.
The dwelling that Moses erects for the ark is the place of God’s presence. It is God’s dwelling among his people, the place where he abides. This dwelling is also the source of direction for the people. Wherever it leads they go. When it settles they stop.
God is present to us, too–in his Word, in his community, in the Eucharist. We are called to rest with the Lord and to travel with the Lord. Sometimes we take his presence and his guidance for granted. Sometimes we disregard it entirely. But the Lord is with us nonetheless because he cares for us–because he loves us.
