Daily Reading from the USCCB: Matthew 18:15-20
What do you do with troublesome, self-centered people in the community?
Jesus teaches that you don’t just write them off or beat them down. You try to bring them to reconciliation through dialogue one on one, or through the intervention of a small group of fellow believers. If that doesn’t bring about peace you go to the assembly of the Church and try to get the offender to listen. If that doesn’t bring things to resolution you can commit the offender to the wisdom of God, and let the Lord deal with the difficult person.
There are lots of ways to bring about reconciliation. What’s not acceptable is to leave the offender to himself and pretend that he or she is not worth bothering with.
