The Temple of God

Reflect

The apostle Paul counsels that “your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. . . . Glorify God in body” (1 Cor 6:19–20). How do we glorify God with our bodies? Perhaps, by loving our bodies through exercise, diet, affirmation, and appropriate medical care when needed. Perhaps by committing our bodies to be “instruments of peace,” letting every deed and word promote peace. Our bodies are beautiful at every age and condition. Let us thank God for the wonder of our bodies and use our bodies to support the well-being of others.

Pray

Loving God,
I thank you for the wonder of my body.
I thank you for sense—for sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste.
I thank you for movement and growth and the opportunity to live in a healthy manner.
Let our self-care inspire us to care for others.
As we nurture our health, let us make a commitment to promote the health
Of the vulnerable and persons with disabilities.
Amen.

Act

Today, let us be mindful of our health, and consider our diet, exercise, and other activities that promote mind-body-spirit well-being. If we need to take medication, let us do so. As we care for ourselves, let us commit to seeking the well-being of others through interpersonal relationships, generosity, and public policy.
