Reflect
Jesus talked a great deal about fear. Knowing our human condition, he knew how sneaky fear can be, burrowing into our psyches and spirits in ways we can’t always see. He saw that many of us live in fear, whether physical fear of harm or psychological fear of the unknown, and he understood our tendency to live fearfully in the future—worrying about all sorts of hypothetical events. Jesus experienced profound feelings of fear and despair in the Garden of Gethsemane but chose not to act on those feelings.
Pray
Lord,
Help me recognize my various fears.
Rather than acting on them,
help me to bring my fears to you.
Quiet my fears by reminding me once again,
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
Act
Spend some moments in prayer and meditation. Then write about what you fear. Don’t worry about whether the fear makes sense. Just write it down. That’s the first step. Name the fear.
