Like the Dewfall

plant with dew

Today, reflect on these poetic words from the Eucharistic prayer: “Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray, by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall.”

Thank you, God, for this image of your Spirit
as water descending on these gifts.
So gentle, refracting light.
Thank you for the mystery of the whole altar,
for a gold chalice reflecting candlelight,
for linen stitched with sky-colored threads.
Help me be attentive to these words,
to lean in and wait for them,
like the dew, as they fall.

This morning, take an extra moment to notice the dew as you begin your day. Is it on leaves by your front door, the hood of your car? Think of the Holy Spirit, right here.
