God’s Providence

“O taste and see that the Lord is good.”—Proverbs 34:8

How do we get over those rough spots in life that we all experience? Are they really part of God’s goodness and plan? I learn to see God’s providential love working in the very smallest occurrences of my daily life (suddenly finding something I’ve lost, a kind word from a friend, an unexpected blessing). These small “tastes” of the goodness of the Lord will help me in those moments when adversity strikes and my instinct is to doubt. By seeing God’s hand in the small things, I can trust him in those events I don’t understand. I believe his word through Isaiah: “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:9).

Lord, I pray, help me to see your loving Providence in the smallest things. Amen.
