Daily Reading from the USCCB: Luke 8:16-18
The kingdom is not a secret society. Rather, it’s intended for all who are willing to receive it. God is not a god of concealment. He’s a God of generosity whose love embraces everybody.
This means that those who hear and accept the proclamation of the good news that Jesus offers must accept it with the expectation that they will in turn share it with others.
This is what Jesus means when he tells the crowd to be careful how they hear. If they don’t listen to Jesus carefully–that is with the expectation of passing on what they have heard–they have not heard what Jesus intended. Maybe they haven’t heard at all! Do I see myself as a proclaimer of the kingdom?
