Daily Reading from the USCCB: Wisdom 7:22b-8:1

What is wisdom? There is no simple, once and for all definition. The best we can look for is a description–a listing of elements that give us some idea of the nature of wisdom. That’s what today’s reading gives us.

To begin, the text gives a list of more than 20 qualities that are characteristic of wisdom. Next we hear that wisdom is a reflection of the might and brilliance of God. Wisdom brings about the holiness of God’s friends. It pervades creation and is the source of order in what God has brought to be.

Wisdom is the capacity to share in God’s life–to be like God in all these innumerable ways. Is the pursuit of wisdom an element of my spirituality?
