Sharing the Word for June 20, 2022 – Twelfth Week in Ordinary Time – Year 2

Monday of the Twelfth Week in Ordinary Time

June 20, 2022
Daily Reading from the USCCB: Matthew 7:1-5

Judging others is dangerous. First, we will ourselves be judged by the same criteria we use to judge others, and the standards that we apply to others are generally demanding. When we judge others we are preparing a harsh judgement for ourselves.

In addition, we are generally incapable of judging objectively. We’re simply not equipped to weigh all the elements that go into the complex reality of the other. We don’t know enough to judge rightly. Finally, if all men and women are our brothers and sisters, we should be unwilling to subject them to the perils of judgment.

The Sermon on the Mount calls us to be like God. But trying to exercise God’s judgmental prerogatives is generally more than we can handle.
