Daily Reading from the USCCB: Hebrews 1:1-6
The liturgy now gives us a section of Ordinary Time. Ordinary Time is that part of the Church’s year which is not oriented toward Christmas or Easter, but walks us through the public life of Jesus in the Gospel readings and gives us samples of other parts of Scripture in the First Readings.
This year the First Readings begin with selections from the Letter to the Hebrews. Hebrews is addressed to Jewish Christians who seem to be discouraged in their practice of the Christian faith. The point of the letter is to demonstrate the superiority of the New Covenant over the old and to encourage readers to perseverance.
All of us occasionally need encouragement in our faith. We all need the Letter to the Hebrews.
